Keeping your windshield clean and damage-free is essential to driving safely. While we happily perform Chicago auto glass repairs, we wanted to give you some tips on how to deep clean your windshield at home. Start spring on the right foot by deep cleaning your windshield.
When you think of cleaning your windshield, you probably think of a quick scrub at the gas station. But there’s often leftover residue and specks that you don’t bother trying to get off. Cleaning your windshield may also mean using your windshield wipers. But, let’s face it, this only cleans a portion of the window, and even then, the glass isn’t thoroughly cleaned.
Steel Wool is the Secret
This material is an all-purpose cleaner that helps windows, as well as other glass and bumpy surfaces alike. The gritty material helps smooth surfaces and remove any stubborn stains on your windshield. Although you may be hesitant to use such a rough substance on your smooth windshield, using steel wool is a trick of the automotive trade.
Other materials you’ll need for this windshield deep clean include Invisible Glass, Rainx, rags and a sock.
Step-by-Step
Rub your entire windshield with steel wool in circular motions for 5-10 minutes. Then use the cloth and the Rainx to carefully wash the windshield. Let it dry fully before giving it another coat. Once complete, use a wet rag to wipe it down. Then, soak a sock in Rainx and use it to cover your windshield in product. Finally, when it’s dry, finish it off with a coat of Invisible Glass.
